  • Derek Powazek - DePo Skinny Theme for WordPress I’ve been pretty happy overall with this theme I’m using. My only complaint is that I’m not used to the way the comment link and the post info is in the left column. I’ve modified it a bit, but that is beyond my capabilities. Derek create a one column version and made it available. I’ll be switching over as soon as I have some time!(2) #
  • The bad news? Mica decided she didn’t want to run. I think that she just didn’t want to miss the football game. She was happy to stay behind, but I was a little disappointed. The race today went well. Mia came in 10th with a time of 19:43. She got to stand on the podium and get a medal, so that was great. We’re hanging out in the hotel, resting up for tomorrow. Another day, another race.(0) #

excuse the mess

Remember when I was complaining about the lack of good sidebar customization in wordpress themes?  Pearl was just released and from what I’ve seen in my test blog, it is pretty damn cool.  The problem with my test blog is that it doesn’t have all the same plugins and categories that I use here.  Sure, I could try and duplicate this setup but why create another mess?  I’ll be testing the theme here for the next few days to see if I want to use it or stick with my old one.  Don’t be surprised if things look or act screwy because I don’t know what I’m doing half the time.

Last day of May

I was much more popular when I was unhappy.

Let me rephrase. I was much more popular when I wrote about being unhappy. I’m talking mainly about comments, because that is a good indicator [sometimes] of how many involved readers you have. That kinda sucks, because I am still dealing with the depression. I just don’t write about it every day. I am making an effort to be more positive. Is it working?

Today is May 31st, and I’ve been dreading it because Mia leaves to visit her dad for two weeks. Usually, she is gone much longer but she is older now and has a lot of activities going on. Every time she leaves, things are just a little harder for me. I don’t know how to explain this to you, but she is the best. kid. ever. Seriously, she is a mother’s dream. Thinking back, I can’t remember her ever, in her whole life, telling me no. Or talking back. Or rolling her eyes. Or having a bad attitude. It is unreal. I’ve NEVER been around another kid [mine or someone elses] that is like that. She also does a lot of things on her own without being asked. She keeps an eye on the little kids and her good attitude rubs off on the older ones.

This year, she is going on a cruise to Mexico for eight days. Her dad is going to make sure she runs at least three miles a day as she is missing track practice. The regionals for Junior Olympics take place the weekend she gets home, so she is missing a lot of important practices…

I’m going to miss her.

In other news, you may have noticed a few changes around here. I don’t think I’ll keep this theme for too long. It’s just a summer fling! I did want to try out a one column look to decide if I can live with it or not. I chose this theme because of the navigation menu at the top. Everything in my sidebar is there if you want it, except for the del.icio.us links and those are in the posts. I added my recent flickr photos to the footer and changed the number of posts on the main page from four days to two days so you won’t have to scroll down as far. For quadrapop I added a who’s who page in case you get confused about which kid I’m talking about. As always, if you notice something that doesn’t work or think of anything that would make this theme easier to use, let me know. I don’t have time to sit down and do a great job with this, so my work tends to be sloppy!

I have two kids in basketball camp this morning, one that needs a ride to the airport at lunch and two more with tball practice this afternoon. They are starting to wake up, so I’d best be going. I’m going to be running around all day, but my comments are sent to my phone. Leave me one? I hate to ask, but I need a little encouragement today!

  • I am pretty happy with the theme I have right now, except for the header. I hate headers. But I like having navigation at the top of the page rather than just in the sidebar. Of all the themes I have tried, kiwi and squible were my favorite. They were also the ones that my readers seemed to dislike the most. All that clicking! So, I abandoned them in favor of a more traditional two column style. The navigation of kiwi is hopelessly complicated for a blog like mine that is updated frequently. It would be awesome for someone else, but not me. Today I dropped in on Paige and saw that she is using squible. I like what she has done with it. All that white space in the header ~ YUM! So, I took another look. Squible has changed a lot since the last time I tried it. I may give it another whirl…(2) #
