We did it!

I was prepared for the worst. We had a long talk before we left the house about elections, how our government works, etc. I wanted them to understand that it is a responsibility and to take is seriously. They each had a book and I told them to expect at least an hour of waiting.
Much to my surprise, there wasn’t a line! In fact, the only other person there was Bleu’s teacher and she was leaving as we entered. The workers were very friendly and helpful. In the last election, I took the older kids in with me. This time, they sat in the chairs and watched Echo. I took Butterfly and Jonathan and explained the process. I even let them push a few buttons. The lights were blinking and they decided that they should be able to vote over and over.
When we were leaving, Butterfly started chanting “Go, Kerry! Go, Kerry!” A poll worker made the mistake of asking why she liked Kerry. She replied, “Kerry is a girl. Bush is a boy and I think he does drugs.” She won’t let go of this bizarre idea that Kerry is a girl. Even after I showed her his picture she insists that he is a girl, but that the boys won’t vote for a girl so he has to pretend to be a boy.
