I felt like a tiny drop of grease in the machine that is democracy.

frown monster, 365 my polling place

Heather insists that voting is sexy. I tried to feel it, but voting [especially with seven kids] is decidedly NOT sexy. It is, however, empowering. Hmmm…. power! Maybe it was sexy after all.

They have a new system for counting votes here. Instead of the machines with lights and buttons, we were given actual pieces of paper. I think they call them ballots?! After coloring in the bubbles, I put the ballot in the machine which recorded my vote. I was voter #64 in my precinct. Should there be a question about the count or if the race is very close, the locked box of paper ballots will be hand counted. If that happens, any clear mark on the paper to indicate choice will be accepted and counted, even if the bubble isn’t correctly marked. I felt much more secure with the method than I have at previous elections. Nothing is perfect, though. There are already rumors of a lawsuit swirling.

At issue is the apparent distribution of a mere 150 ballots to a precinct that has some 2,500 registered voters, many of them Republican, said Marta Kramer, executive director for the state Republican Party. [link]

Don’t be discouraged. Exercise your right to VOTE!
