For the Shutter Sisters Superhero Photo Challenge: Ugly Beautiful

I took this picture in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico with my Vivitar. I hated the way it turned out and decided not to post it anywhere. But something keeps drawing me back. Maybe the same thing that made me want to take it in the first place. The colors are loud, obnoxious even, but it looks happy. It seems joyful and unashamed. There is no hiding imperfections, no blending in to the background. It seems to shout ‘Here I am! Look at me. I am beautiful!’  Beautiful is not taking yourself too seriously.

Here is one of my favorite movie quotes, from Pulp Fiction: “I don’t give a damn what men find attractive. It’s unfortunate what we find pleasing to the touch and pleasing to the eye is seldom the same.

It is a great image… The color works and the composition has nice repetition of windows. Reminds me of a favorite classic of mine even…

Love the image, love the colors, love the thought. And weirdly enough, I’ve always loved that part of Pulp Fiction, too! The whole talk about the “pot.” I think it’s one of the most realistic movie depictions ever of how couples really talk in private, at least in my experience.
